Countdown!

My countdown til the end of school begins. Today doesn't count as I have finished class, nor do weekends, except for 1 Saturday because I have my Statistics final that day at 8AM!!!!!!!!!!!! Why I am expected to think statistically at 8am on a Saturday is beyond me, especially since some days I can hardly think about things statically at 11am MWF. But anyway, with all that, I have:

12 DAYS LEFT OF SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However that just means I have to start a job and summer school...Hmm..That's not so fun...

Movie Review: "In the Land of Women"

Yesterday we saw "In the Land of Women" after the walk and brunch.

The basic premise is a guy gets dumped by his girlfriend and heads off to Michigan to take care of his grandmother who is convinced she is about to drop dead any second now. While living there, he meets and befriends a woman across the street and her daughters and it's a story of their relationships.

I won't say much more in case you want to see it yourself. I personally really liked it and recommend it. It is a bit of a chick flick, so guys reading be warned I guess. But even so, it's not like the usual chick flick-you know, guy and girl meet, fall in love, something comes between them, everything works out and the lovers end up together. So maybe it won't be so bad if a woman in your life takes you to see that movie one of these days.

MS Walk!!!

Yesterday I was in the MS Walk at the Embarcadero Marina Park down here. I walked it with my mom, Cyndi and Cyndi's friend Angela. They came down on Saturday night and picked me up at my apartment. We got some dinner and went back to Cyndi's mom's house for the night. We hung out and watched "Stranger Than Fiction" then headed off to bed around midnight.

We got up at about 5:45am and got ready, grabbing muffins/donuts for breakfast on the way. We got down there and checked in, then wandered around for a bit before the walk got going around 8:30.

The walk was 2 1/2 miles long. It was a nice view along the water, marina area and in Seaport Village. It was overcast the entire walk so we didn't get too warm. After we wandered around to other booths, picked up some free stuff then left.

We went back to Cyndi's mom's then went to brunch at Souplantation, got a few groceries for me, then went to Mission Valley to catch a movie (review next post). After the movie, I got dropped off and they left for home not long after.

Roommate search

My roommate search is going ok. I have had more people inquiring than I was expecting. Right now I have one girl that I think is going to work out. I still have to find a time to meet up with her and see if we click...Hopefully we do.

Should it not work out though, I have plenty of offers from people in Europe.

Not kidding people. To date, I have had 9 emails from people in Europe responding to my ad on Craig's List. The break down is as follows:
7 from the UK
1 from France
1 from Belgium

Oh how fun to live with a foreign person, is what you might be thinking, and it probably would be. But what frustrates me is that my ad clearly says that it's a 12 month lease and that the move in date isn't until JULY 27TH at the earliest. Then I get all these emails from professionals wanting to expand business in San Diego (note: SDSU area is NOT the place to expand business..nothing but college kids are around and college kids are broke) in their mid to late 20s, 2 dads and an uncle looking for their daughters/niece who are travelling to the US and need a place to stay for 3-6 months starting ASAP, and finally a male model originally from Ireland, now living in Beligum coming May 5th and wanting to move in.

My ad says that the place is not available until JULY 27TH!!!!! I don't understand how that's not clear. Plus, with one of them that wanted to move in now I said that it's not available and still this woman emailed me telling me all about her situation and key info about her. Don't you get it?? IT'S NOT AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW!!!!! They all seem to think I own the apartment too. I don't.

Another thing is that a lot of them think I have a spare bedroom. Which I don't. It is a one bedroom place, bedroom and bathroom would be shared by the both of us and they are asking if my spare room is still available for them. Others emailed me like I have already said yes and just want to know who to write the check/cashier's check/money order to.

Sigh. Why the sudden interest from international people? I'm just getting a bit annoyed with it because they ask if they can come now and such and I have to email them back saying 'You can't, good luck with another place' which wouldn't of wasted both of our times responding and reading this stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against these people and their countries, but if the information is all there, why are they asking things that could be answered by reading the ad?

Another week down...

Well, I made it through another week. Barely. This semester is most definately a lot more stressful than last semester. No contest. Plus this semester seems longer. I know that it's not because both semesters are 16 weeks. However this one seems longer for a few reasons:
1. There aren't any vacations in the middle of it.

With first semester, our first weekend down here was a three day weekend. We had Veteran's Day off. Thanksgiving. Then by the beginning of December, we were done. There were days off. Breaks to catch up on sleep and work. This semester is dragging. We didn't get off President's Day or Lincoln's Birthday-holidays recognized by the federal government and other schools. But not ours. Come on! At the very least give us President's Day. And yeah, yeah, we got spring break. But still, all the days off this semester grouped together..It's not the same.

2. I don't like my classes.

Yeah I'm not going to lie about it. I really don't like my classes this semester. They are a lot harder and taking them together is kind of overwhelming sometimes. Formulas, math, theories, money, computers. Sometimes my brain feels dead after a long day of class and/or studying. That's why I really hate that question that comes up from those ladies at church: How's school? How are your classes?
My response? 'Oh they are good. Things are good.' But in reality, they aren't always so good. I just don't really want to get into details with them about it and trying to explain why things aren't good. I can't expect them to really understand, so it's just easier to pretend things are peachy keen.

At least I am about to start my last full week of classes. Then two days next week and then finals start. So 7 more days of classes, and 4 days of finals. Then it's FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Living on coffee and a prayer...

It's that time of year when school is winding down and teachers are piling on the work. Which equals stress. Which means sad student. I suppose I should be content in the fact that this just means school is almost done. And I am, but at the same time, a lot is going on right now.

Everyone is stressing...Our grades aren't what we want them to be now or fear the final test will screw us over in the end. We are sleep deprived and manic in the flurry that is the ending of classes.

The last 4 days I have gotten Starbucks. Sure Saturday and Sunday it was because I was up ridiculously early to help at the garage sale at Cyndi's mom's house in our efforts to raise more money for the MS Walk this coming Sunday, but yesterday night and today it was all purely to fill up on caffiene to stay awake to work. Last night I had to finish my big Access assignment for IDS. As did Emily, her partner on the project, her other friend and Cayla. Emily's and Cayla's were saved on my flash drive so we had to be there together to work on it so they could take it off and work and then save later. It was long and we kept getting stuck. The library had other IDS students, also getting stuck. So we all worked into the night, going around the computer lab asking others for help and helping out others if they were stuck somewhere we got past. We were done by 1am, when the computer lab closes, but still needed to print things, so headed to the Reserved Book Room in the main library dome, where all computers were taken. We found one open and grabbed it and Emily and her partner and me and my partner opened our info and were printing and making sure we had everything. We finally left at about 1:45am.

When we finally got back to the apt. at 2am, I was debating whether or not to bother to sleep. I was still wide awake from the Starbucks coffee I had gotten at 9:30pm and I didnt want to get in bed, take forever to sleeep then not get up for class like last week. I decided I'd try to stay awake for the rest of the night. I put my headphones into my computer and watched the 'Desperate Housewives' I missed when I was working on IDS for four hours on Sunday night. I stayed up on the computer for a while after that, then decided there was nothing to do, as we all know 3am doesnt really have much in the way of good tv and I felt bad being on my comptuer as Tricia was asleep..But I didn't get in my bed. I just laid on top in a sweatshirt and pj pants with my purple fleece throw covering my feet. I knew getting in bed would really not make me want to get up later. So I set my alarm for 7am then took forever to fall asleep.

At 7 my alarm went off and I hit the snooze and actually got in the bed to try and warm up some. My first thought on waking up though was "OMG! What if my printouts for IDS are all wrong? Do I have them all???" then realized I was fine. But when the alarm went off again, I got up, got dressed, got my stuff and left for the Starbucks and Aztec Market by my class. At the market I grabbed a chocolate toffee muffin and then headed to Starbucks to get a white chocolate mocha w/a shot of raspberry then went and sat in my class alone and ate.

So far I haven't really napped today..Unless that 5 minute doze off in Econ counts. But I don't count it as it wasn't sufficient enough sleep. But being the sad college student I am, I am living on coffee and a prayer to survive finals and "midterms" (why they want to call tests exactly a week before the final exam midterms I don't get) and projects and studying.

Sigh...exactly 3 weeks left. 3 weeks from today, I will be done with finals as of 12:30pm and done with my freshman year of college..if I can make it that is..

So what did you learn in class today?

Learn? Oh not much. I watched some 'Schoolhouse Rock' in Economics...They didn't even have anything to do with Econ...

We watched:

and of course the all time classic:

Yes this is college I go to. I swear.

Adventure

This past Friday I had an adventure. I took the Amtrak home. I was pretty nervous, going to downtown San Diego alone and then into downtown LA. And since I was getting to the station by trolley, I was nervous about getting there on time and how long would it take and all that. Then how creepy would the other riders be. Well no one was really that creepy. I sat alone for about 10 minutes until we stopped at Solana Beach. There a lot of people got on. Some girl asked if the seat next to me was taken so she sat there. She was a student too since she sat and read a text book during the trip. I watched a movie on my laptop as I got the window seat by the plug. Across the aisle from me was a girl that was in front of me to board the train and I had seen an SDSU lanyard thing that kids in the dorms have and she also went all the way to LA, so I wasn't totally alone. It was a pretty nice ride. Definitely a new experience, though I think that it would be a funner ride if I were going with a friend or two.

New Place

Unfortunately, the school bought my apartments, which basically forces me to move. Well move or apply for housing, say I already live in Aztec Corner, putting down an $800 deposit just to do that, then deal with a $270 increase on rent, but still pay for electricity and cable.

Pass.

So I got to go looking again. I looked at one place a while back where a friend has put down a deposit. But I wasn't too impressed with it. Mom had last Monday off, so she took me back to school that day and she and Cyndi scouted out places to live while I went to class. After class I met up with them, we had lunch and they took me to 2 apartments. We went to the grocery store and tried to look at another apartment, but no one was at the office so we went to Cyndi's mom's to make a decision about where the best place would be.

In the end, we decided on a place up the street from where I am now. It's farther from school, but they have a free shuttle that would take me to and from school. It's a one bedroom, one bathroom, with a walk through closet to get to the bathroom, or you can enter the bathroom from the living room in case it's guests and you don't want them walking in your room. The living room/dining area is really large, so I may have my desk out there or something. It all depends. Now I have the task of finding a roommate. Hopefully I can find a normal one.

SPRING BREAK!

A much needed rest came the last week of March in the form of spring break. I didn't do too much. The first Saturday (24th) I helped my mom with a wedding at our church. Then Sunday as a family dinner to celebrate mine and my aunt's birthdays. We had a nice dinner at Tony Roma's then went to Mair and Papa's to open gifts.

It was a good week to have break because just about all of my friends had this same week off for break. Tuesday I went to lunch with Annie and we headed over to AHS for a visit with Mr. Lau and the intention of hitting the Las Moras meeting, but arrived a little too late for it.

Thursday night was fun night with the gang, minus Brian. It was still a foursome with Evelyn, Celine, Sterling and I, but our 5th member had better things to do. We had a nice dinner at Charlie's Trio. From there, we went to see if there were any movies playing, but every movie was in the middle of its showing and we were too lazy to play. We traveled on to Rite Aid then ended up in Sterling's room watching a DVD of Michael Jackson music videos. We were joined by Jennifer and Elyshia. Celine left after a while, and the rest of us kept watching. When the DVD was over we watched an episode of "Friends" on tv, then went to Cha for Tea. Of course the only people there were young adults and college students. I finally went home around 1:15am.

Me, Jen, Evelyn and Celine on Sterling's bed (for some reason we have no pictures with him in them..he was there though)

Friday night, I sang with the youth and young adult "S.I.G.N" band at a concert over at church. Everyone said we did really well.

The rest of the weekend was spent shopping, primarily at New York and Company. Robbie introduced me to the store and now you couldn't keep me away. Good money was spent there on cute stuff, so it was a successful shopping trip.

It was a nice break and it made me sad to go back to school.

Yeah yeah....

I know, I know. This blog has basically been dead for a while. Things happen. Homework and papers and tests and all that great stuff. So I will now catch up on things that have been going on in my life since being ill.
