This is a bad, sitcom moment in my life...

"OH. MY. GOD." to quote Janice on 'Friends'. That is my feeling on things at this very moment.

My toilet decided to be evil tonight and give me problems. Simple plunge right? NO! So Paul told me how to fix it and said I had to be quick. So I go to flush and plunge and then stop if it gets too high. Except there are two lever things in there and I apparently was messing with the wrong one and so it overflowed. Luckily nothing was in the water, so it was clear water, but still. So I'm like "AHHHHHH! WHAT DO I DO?" I finally get it to stop but now I have all this water on my floor. I used paper towels on the edges by the door, mopping up too. However I don't have floor cleaner..well I do, but not like liquid and pour it in with water and mop. I have Fantastik or something like that, which I will put some on the floor once (if I ever get it) dry. But I definitely need to go walk to Ralph's later and get some cleaning stuff. Paul says that it's clean water, so I shouldn't be afraid of it, but whatever. I can't get the idea that it isn't gross out of my head. I obviously can't sleep tonight though, which kind of sucks. But I refuse to go to bed with feet that have touched that water in my bed. I need to get in the shower and wash off. Fear of contamination of my bed doesn't set well with me.

I wish this water would dry faster...If I turned the hair dryer on and let the air blow on the floor, would that help speed it up? I swear I am going to be like the first customer of the day at Ralph's. Or if I do sleep, it will have to be on the living room floor...This is so sad. But can't you see the sitcom moment when the clueless girl is attempting to deal with plumbing? It's like that episode of 'Saved by the Bell' where they break the pipe in the bathroom so that Mr. Testaverde will have to rush in and fix it and Mr. Belding will read the questions on the test because if Mr. Testaverde did it, it would be so fast you wouldn't get the question right. So they broke they pipe and water was everywhere and they were trying to figure out what to do with the excess water...Comical episode. But that is basically me at the moment.

Hmm this is definitely one of those times I wished I had some guy around to fix this for me during these off hours of the office and such. Just saying...or even if one of my girl friends knew what the heck was going on and what to do.

Awesome. 2 of my classes are cancelled on the day before Thanksgiving. Come on now other 2 teachers...It's not hard. Just say it. "No class on Wednesday before Thanksgiving." I mean seriously no one is going to be there that day anyway. Case in point: last year my classes had only handfuls of people...a lecture that normally would have about 250 people or so, was down to like 20 or 30. Just give up and face the fact that no one wants to be there and wants to try and leave early and attempt to beat some traffic that day or make their flights. My humanities professor last year said they were considering giving us the whole week off. Again, may as well. Well still a few weeks to cancel. Let's hope it happens.

Thought I was going to lose already, huh?

You probably thought the whole blog a day thing had already slipped my mind and I was going to fail right away. Oh how wrong you were. Sure, I could of posted earlier before class when I was on, but at that point I lacked inspiration as to what to post about. But now as my day is almost over, I found clarity on what to write about.

Taxes are dumb.

I'm not talking about paying them, though I'm sure that totally sucks too. I'm talking about learning about them. They are confusing. What does a tax on buyers do to supply and demand curves? What does a tax on sellers do? If the effect screws them both over, why both making and distinction? And more importantly, if the tax makes something go up, say $5, then why would the amount being paid go up or down somewhere between $0-$5?

These are the ponderances we had tonight as Cayla, Jillian and I sat around my computer reading questions about taxes in an attempt to study for our midterm in Econ tomorrow. In the end, we came out still confused. Example:

The City of San Diego is considering charging hotels a tax of $30 per room. What would you expect to see happen?

A.The price of hotel rooms will go up by $30
B.Hotel revenue will go down by $30 per room
C.The price of hotel rooms will go up but by less than $30
D.There isn't enough information given to answer this question

Answer: C.
Why? Not totally sure. Wouldn't you think that it would go up $30 at least so that the hotel doesn't lose any income because of the tax?

Whatever. I don't even care anymore. I just want it to be over and it to be the weekend and not have to worry about another midterm until my Finance 240 (business law for all those who never checked out my blog on my class schedule. see post down more on the page) that's next Thursday.

Oh and in other news, I went into Starbucks to grab some coffee before this study sess as I was dozing in my class (why I don't know...I didn't get up til 10am and class is at 4pm) and on their chalkboard, I saw that peppermint mochas are back. I was pretty excited and therefore ordered that. I could order it any time of the year, but when I ask for a shot of peppermint in my mocha, they make it seem like it's an odd request and sometimes do it and sometimes don't. On times they do, it's not much and times they don't, I'm usually grabbing it during a brief break and need to go to class after the huge line I have endured and am far away and too lazy to go back and be like "You messsed up." So I was surprised to see it available on the first of November since they still have pumpkin spice lattes and fraps. but whatever. These next 2 months I can have them all I want and it will be right!

Here we go again

So November starts National Blog Posting Month and once again I join many others in doing a blog post each day.

My blog has been rather dead lately, just like it was last year so this is a good thing for me. It gives me something to do. Apparently this was inspired by National Novel Writing Month. Perhaps doing this every day will get my creative mind working for that novel I've been working on.

FIRE

So basically fire is a bad thing. It does no good. Contained bonfires, contained fires in fireplaces, candles, those are alright because you can control them. Wildfires, not so much.

Anyway in case you live in a box or a cave or hole somewhere, Southern California is on fire. Location of apparently the worst fires: San Diego.

SDSU was one of the last (maybe the last) school to be closed yesterday as of 1pm. Kind of weird. It's like a snow day or something. We weren't evacuated because the campus was threatened, but to reduce traffic for people evacuating and because the air quality was (and is) poor.

Well nothing was on tv last night except fire coverage (so good thing I have cable to escape some of the coverage that was no new info, just the same images and info for hours) so my roommate and I were nervous. We couldn't sleep and at 2:30am she decided she was going to pack. So we got out our suitcases and put clothes and shoes in, got books, pictures and other personal items together. We packed her Corolla basically to the max and watched the news to decide what we wanted to do. At about 4:30 we decided that the evacuation area was spreading and we were uneasy about 'Would it spread to evacuate our area? Would we have time to get out?' so we left. We left furniture, food, dishes, our printers, tv and other random things we didn't feel we needed.

We got back here by like 7:30am. We don't think our apartment is going to burn down or get close enough to it, but we just felt better being home and away from it all. As I wrote this, I got word that class has been canceled for the rest of the week. Everyone should pray for all areas and people effected by the fire and that they can get some containment on it soon. (even if you aren't religious you can hope for good things and keep positive thoughts that this will end soon.)

I Choose...Business Ethics

Take a guess at what we discussed yesterday in my law class. Yes that's right. Business Ethics.



The part my title comes from isn't until about 7:30 minutes, but it's all entertaining. However, unlike Eric, I could tell you what business ethics are and applying them today. I could also tell you different theories of business ethics and different schools of social responsibility. I'm not going to lie though, when she put up the slides and said we were going to be discussing ethics, "Billy Madison" was basically the only thing that came to mind. Is that good or bad?

Back to School

So here I am, ending my second week of school. So far so good I guess..I haven't been totally overloaded with work. Mostly all I have to do is reading. Also nice is that I have a familiar face in pretty much all my classes. I don't know anyone in accounting and my lab...well at least I don't think I know anyone in my lab. We haven't actually had it yet, but I know my friend in that class has a different lab than I do. There are 2 other people in there I recognized from previous classes last year, but I haven't really talked to them so I don't know what lab they have. I guess I'll find out this coming Tuesday night. Still not really excited about the night lab thing...Oh well.

Now the questions most of you are thinking: Do you like your classes?
They are alright. Like I said, I haven't done too much in them, so not sure how it will all pan out later. I'm not really a big fan of accounting already..Balance sheets, income statements, not that fun. And it makes my Mondays and Wednesdays fun to have that as an extra class for an hour and fifteen minutes..

Keep thinking good thoughts for me as I navigate through this semester. It's definitely going to be interesting.

Santa Cruz!

So between my last day of work and when I'd have to get ready to come back to school, I went away to Santa Cruz with Mom, Mair and Papa. The few days up there were spent shopping, shopping and doing some more shopping. The time up there was well spent with them and cousins Monica, Don and Glen.

I did have one creepy experience while up there. One of the supernatural sort. One night I was reading and it was 2am, so I put my book on the night stand and plugged in my cell phone. As I was doing this, I had my back to the closed door. Then I heard the doorknob, so I turned around thinking perhaps it was one of my grandparents needing something. No one was there. The door was just open. Wayy creepy for me. I like immediately turned off the light and got into bed. Don't know what caused this to happen...So far all I've got is ghosts.

Something surprising this year was the fact that the swamp that our house has a lovely view of was dried up. It was soo weird. I have never seen it dried up like that...There was a little water still in it but it's way far up. I have pictures but forgot to upload them before I left for school and now I don't have a card reader, so pictures will come later.

It was a nice vacation before going back to school.

This can't be good for anyone....

So I have registered for classes...What a pain that was. I had put about 11 classes on my wishlist in hopes that by the time I actually got to register (Tuesday the 21st at 10:15am...registration was to close Thursday, sophomores have last priority for some reason) not all the seats in those classes would be taken.

Wrong. Only 2 of those classes had any seats left in them. So I had to go and find replacements. Some classes had no seats in any section availble though, such as Accounting 201. So as it's replacement, I signed up to take Intro to Lit MWF at 8am. Yuck. So I got my classes together and ordered books right after since I was in Santa Cruz for all this and book reserving ended today at 3pm, when I was driving home.

Then when I get home and check my email, I see that they added sections of Accounting and a few others because there was such a high demand for the classes. I then thought, 'Should I drop the lit class?' My first instinct is to say yes because it meant I wouldn't have to be up at the crack of butt on Monday when I start school. But I wasn't sure, so I checked my course catalog to see if any of the things I have to take next semester require that I have already had accounting, and sure enough, the HTM class I need to take requires me to have already taken accounting, so that pretty much made my decision for me. Then it was 'Should I take it on MW from 2-3:15 or TTh from 8-9:15?' And after consulting ratemyprofessors.com, I found that the teacher listed for the 8am one doesn't actually teach you anything, so a lot of self teaching is required. Pass.

So here's my schedule for Fall 2007:

MWF:
10-10:50am Ocean Planet (lecture)
12-12:50pm Econ 102 (micro)
1-1:50pm Math 120 (business calculus...the teacher is apparently cool)

MW only:
2-3:15pm Accounting 201 (mystery teacher...hopefully a good one)

TTh:
4-5:15pm Finance 240 (which is Business Law..not finance at all)

Tuesday only:
6-8:40pm Ocean Planet (lab)

So this should be exciting...or maybe not. Other than learning about what lives in the ocean, I'm filling up on lots of business classes. Not really looking forward to it, but hopefully it won't be as bad as I might think. Let's just all hope that I can deal with all these classes. One thing I know for sure, Christmas break will be a well deserved break for me.
